Safety Briefing for Ocean Tours

Welcome to Martin Adventours. Your safety is our top priority, and we want to ensure you have an enjoyable and secure experience. Before we embark on this exciting adventure, we would like to provide you with some essential safety information:

  • Life Jackets and Safety Equipment: Life jackets are available on board for everyone. If you are not a strong or experienced ocean swimmer, please wear your life jacket properly and securely throughout the tour. Additionally, familiarize yourself with the location of life jackets and other emergency equipment such as lifebuoys and first aid kits.

  • Emergency Procedures: Stay calm and follow the crew's instructions if an emergency occurs. They are trained to handle various situations and will guide you on the necessary actions.

  • Alcohol and Drug Policy: For your safety and the safety of others, alcohol and recreational drugs are not permitted on board. We want everyone to be alert and able to respond to any situation.

  • Movement on the Boat: While on the boat, please remain seated whenever the vessel is in motion. Use the designated walkways and handrails for support if you need to move around. Avoid leaning over the boat's sides, especially during close encounters with marine life.

  • Seasickness Prevention: Consider taking appropriate medication before the tour if you are prone to motion sickness. Looking at the horizon and staying on deck in fresh air can also help alleviate symptoms.

  • Personal Protection: Wear sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat to protect yourself from the sun. Dress comfortably and in layers, as weather conditions can change during the day. Non-slip shoes are recommended to ensure stability on the boat. Remember to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water, especially on a sunny day.

  • Weather Awareness: Weather conditions at sea can change quickly. Be prepared for potential changes in temperature, wind, or sea conditions. Follow the crew's guidance if weather conditions require adjustments to the itinerary.

  • Trash: Costa Rica is a natural wonder. Do not dispose of any garbage on the ground or in the ocean. Dispose of all waste responsibly into the receptacles provided on the boat or keep it in your backpack to dispose of when you get to shore.

Fishing Tours

  • Tackle and Gear: Our crew will provide instructions on using fishing equipment, including rods, reels, and lines. Follow their guidance to prevent accidents and ensure a successful fishing experience.

  • Hook Safety: Be cautious when handling hooks and bait to avoid accidental injuries. Keep your hands clear of hooks while casting or reeling in lines. If you catch a fish, let our crew assist you with removing the hook safely.

  • Respect for Costa Rica Marine Life Laws: While fishing is our goal, we also value the marine environment. Handle caught fish gently and release any unwanted catches carefully. Follow all catch limits and regulations set by local authorities.

Whale and Dolphin Tours

  • Respect for Marine Wildlife: Our goal is to observe these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat without causing any disturbance. Please refrain from making loud noises, sudden movements, or throwing anything into the water. Keep a respectful distance from the whales and other marine life, as our guides will instruct.

  • Photography Guidelines: Capturing memories through photography is encouraged. However, please do not use flash photography, as it can startle the animals. Listen to the guides' instructions for the best angles and photography opportunities.

Snorkeling Tours

  • Snorkeling Equipment: Our team will provide snorkeling masks, snorkels, fins, and life jackets. Make sure your equipment fits properly and feels comfortable. If you have any questions about how to use the gear, please don't hesitate to ask.

  • Entry and Exit Techniques: When entering the water, face the waves and firmly grip your mask and snorkel. To exit the water, approach the boat cautiously and follow the crew's instructions for a safe return.

  • Breathing Technique: Breathe naturally through your snorkel while keeping your mouth in line with the snorkel's tube. Practice breathing in a calm manner to prevent any discomfort.

  • Marine Life Interaction: While exploring underwater, maintain a safe distance from marine life and coral formations. Avoid touching, chasing, or disturbing any creatures. We're here to observe and appreciate their natural behavior.

  • Buddy System: For safety reasons, always use the buddy system. Stay close to your snorkeling partner, and regularly check each other's well-being.

  • Wind and Currents: The wind and currents can quickly carry you away from the boat. Always be aware of your location in relation to the boat. If you cannot return to the boat, stay calm and signal the boat to pick you up.

  • Supervision and Signals: Our experienced guides will be in the water with you, watching the group. They will use hand signals to communicate, so familiarize yourself with these signals before we begin.

Questions and Clarifications: Feel free to ask our crew members if you have any questions or concerns or need clarification about safety procedures. They are here to ensure your safety and enjoyment throughout the tour.
